Building Consents

The Building Act 2004 sets out the rules for undertaking building work in New Zealand. In most cases, you must obtain building consent before you start any building work. It is an offence to carry out building work without a building consent when one is required.

Resource Consents

Permission from your local council is required for an activity that might affect the environment, and that isn’t allowed ‘as of right’ in the district or regional plan. Resource consenting is the process of gaining permission for you to use a resource such as land.
